New name will come into effect from 9 February 2024
Abu Dhabi International Airport will be renamed Zayed International Airport.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued a directive ordering the name change just before the airport’s new Terminal A opened on 1 November 2023.
Terminal A will prioritise the passenger experience, facilitating a streamlined journey throughout. It will also be the first airport in the world to include all nine biometric airport touchpoints. In the first phase, biometric solutions will be installed in key areas, such as self-service bag drops, immigration eGates and boarding gates.

When fully operational, facial recognition technology will be used to screen passengers and minimise wait times.
Other high-tech features include an advanced baggage handling system capable of processing up to 19,200 bags per hour.
Visiting Abu Dhabi International Airport’s new terminal, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, emphasised that the new facility would contribute to economic development by driving tourism, trade and business growth.
