Bahrain Tourism and Wego partner to showcase kingdom

‘Pearl of the Gulf’ to benefit from travel marketplace promotion

Travel app Wego has partnered with Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) to showcase the kingdom as a travel destination.

Wego, which is also the Middle East and North Africa’s largest online travel marketplace, will promote the ‘Pearl of the Gulf’ and its rich history, culture and attractions.

Top destinations in Bahrain include the UNESCO-listed Qal’at al-Bahrain (Bahrain Fort), the Bab Al Bahrain Souq, Bahrain National Museum, the Al Dar Islands, and the Bahrain International Circuit which hosts the Formula 1 each year.

"We are thrilled to collaborate with Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority to showcase the kingdom's unique offerings to our global audience,” said Mamoun Hmidan, Chief Business Officer at Wego.

“Bahrain is a treasure trove of cultural, natural and modern attractions, and through this partnership, we aim to inspire travellers to explore this dynamic destination."

Bahrain also has strong sustainability credentials for eco-tourism, with natural habitats including  the Hawar Islands and experiences such as pearl diving and marine conservation tours.

This partnership between BTEA and Wego comes at a time when Bahrain is investing in its tourism offering with the launch of new resorts, event venues and an expanded cultural calendar.

The nation’s capital, Manama, was recently voted one of the world’s safest cities in a Numbeo survey.

As recently reported, Bahrain welcomed a record number of cruise ships in 2024, representing a 104% hike in visitors. Much of this success is down to the establishment of the Cruise Arabia Alliance at ITB Berlin in 2024, with tourism authorities from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman and Bahrain signing a pact to promote cruises across all four destinations.

This is supported by the introduction in October 2023 of a GCC visa, similar to the Schengen Zone in the EU, that covers Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.

"This partnership with Wego allows us to reach thousands of travellers and highlight Bahrain as a must-visit destination,” said Maryam Toorani, Director, Marketing and Promotion at BTEA.

“From its historical landmarks to its forward-thinking tourism innovations, Bahrain has something to offer every type of traveller."
